JORDAN VALLEY, November 14 – Israeli settlers on Friday began building a new illegal outpost and setting up tents in the Umm Kharrouba area in the northern Jordan Valley.
Human rights activist Aref Daraghmeh said that the settlers pitched tents the Umm Kharrouba area, west of Khirbet al-Suwaida in the northern Jordan Valley.
Israeli settlers have recently been grazing their cattle in the area, Daraghmeh added.
Since 1967, successive Israeli occupation governments have considered the Jordan Valley one of the vital regions for Israeli “security and economy”.
Last month, the Israeli occupation authorities confiscated more than 11,000 dunums (1,100 hectares) of Palestinian lands, mostly pastoral lands, in one of the largest land grabs.
Since conquering the West Bank, the Israeli occupation has sought to annex and Judaise the Palestinian Jordan Valley, which is located on an enormous reservoir of water.
